SCMEA GUITAR DIVISION
A Division of the South Carolina Music Teachers Association (SCMEA)
MORE ABOUT SCMEA GUITAR
In 2017, classroom guitar teachers across the state of South Carolina began dreaming about our programs coming together for a single purpose. We sought and seek to create experiences for young guitarist in middle and high school guitar programs across the state of South Carolina. In 2018, the South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA), in conjunction with the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) officially recognized Guitar as a Division. We are honored to work along side fine teachers in our division as well as glean from the wealth of experience from other Divisions such as Band, Choral, and Orchestra. If you are a guitar teacher please take a moment to leave us your information so we can send you information about how you can get involved. In mean time we hope you will consider attending Guitarfest or participating in our All State Auditions and Ensemble.

Perhaps one of the most unique aspects of this event is the fact that we intentionally give students the opportunity to learn about a diversity of styles that include jazz, blues, classical, electric, acoustic, ensemble, jazz, and blues. With the vast heritage our instrument has, we believe that guitar teachers have a special opportunity to reach a broader demographic of student with music that personally inspires, challenges, and has the potential to change lives. For this reason every year we bring in top artists and clinicians to inspire our students. We you can join us. Contact us with any questions you may have. See you in May!
